THE PROCESS
DESIGN
The Brief – to create a wedding band which matched the client’s existing engagement ring.
She wanted an 18ct yellow gold ring with lots of diamonds and a style which would wrap under the marquise diamond on her engagement ring. I sketched up some design options and she chose her favourite.
I created a 3D model of the ring on matrix so she could visualise and approve the design.
MAKING
AT THE JEWELLERY BENCH
I sourced some diamonds with excellent cut, colour and clarity and after approval I began work at my jewellery bench to forge the gold wedding ring. I had the engagement ring in my possession so I could ensure that the wedding band was made to wrap snugly up against it.
The diamonds were set in a shared prong setting following the line of the ring. After setting and polishing up the ring, the result was truly stunning.
Then off to the laser engraver to get the client’s chosen engraving on the inside of the ring – ‘You and I always’
FINISHED PIECE
SHINY AND NEW
Off to Goldsmith’s Office in London to get hallmarked to prove its made out of recycled solid 18ct yellow gold.
Whilst it’s getting stamped, I painted a rendered illustration of the ring to give to the client so that they have a memory of this creative journey they have been so involved in from idea to sketch to finished piece.
Then delivery day well in time for the wedding! A real honour to have co-design the wedding ring with the bride.
