ETTA BURTON

My journey as a jeweller began young, exploring the souks and ancient ruins of the Middle East and the Hellenic world. I was fascinated by the colours, shapes and textures of the jewels, crafts, ancient architecture and the natural surroundings. My work has been inspired by these early memories and fused with a contemporary style and edge. After training in jewellery making in London's iconic Hatton Garden, I founded Etta Burton Jewellery to create unique and expressive designs for those who cherish individuality.

DESIGN

I always start every piece at my design desk with pencil and paper whether I’m working on a bespoke piece with a client or a design for one my collections. Each piece I design has a rich cultural meaning or story behind it, inspired by history, myth, symbolism and nature.

3D MODELLING ON MATRIX

With some of my complex and detailed pieces, I will also make a 3Dimensional CAD model on matrix, this is where the modern techniques fuse with the old. Matrix is a very useful tool – it not only visualizes the piece for the client to see before you make it, but you can also print your CAD model in wax and then cast it in any metal.

MAKING

Once the design is approved I will move on the making part at my jewellery bench. I handcraft each one of my pieces in my studio, using recycled silver, gold and precious and semi precious stones, everything is consciously produced with ethical materials. This is where I find I go into a meditative state at bench, I put on my music and pierce, file and solder away until the piece of jewellery starts to take shape.
