Etta helped me figure out what kind of style of ring I wanted, and how we could incorporate the symbology into the ring design, with ideas and insights that I wouldn’t have been able to come to myself. The end result was a stunningly beautiful, elegant, and unique ring that I was incredibly proud to propose with—and she said yes!

THE PROCESS

DESIGN

The inspiration for this brief was apple symbolism.

I sketched up different designs for the client to review and we worked together to choose and refine his favourite. We settled on 18ct yellow gold for the material.

I sourced various gemstone options and the client chose a stunning blue purple oval Ceylon sapphire and two flanking diamonds to nestle in the apple leaves. The final design incorporated apple leaves, blossom and a gorgeous petal shaped collet to hold the central gemstone.

I then created a 3D model of his chosen ring so he could visualise how the design would look.

THE MAKING BIT

dav

AT THE BENCH

At the jewellery bench, piercing, filing, soldering to create this gorgeously complex and detailed piece. Next, setting the diamonds in their 6 pronged apple blossom settings and the setting of the stunning sapphire in its symbolic petal shaped collet.

Then off to the laser engraver to get the client’s chosen engraving on the inside of the ring – The Apple Of My Eye.

Finally a good old polish to bring the ring to its sparkly glory.

HANDING IT OVER

Off to Goldsmith’s Office in London to get hallmarked to prove its made out of recycled solid 18ct yellow gold.

Whilst it’s getting stamped, I painted a rendered illustration of the unique ring to give to the client so that they have a memory of this creative journey they have been so involved in from idea to sketch to finished piece.

Then delivery day. I loved the collaberation between myself and the client to make something so unique and special to them, and a ring that the client could proudly propose with.
