THE PROCESS

DESIGN
Brief – a solid gold G pendant necklace
I sketched up some different font options for the G initial and the client chose her preferred style and chain.
MAKING

AT THE JEWELLERY BENCH
At the Jewellery bench, I started with a lovely sheet of recycled 9ct yellow gold, I pierced out the G shape. Much filing later I had a gorgeously smooth and defined G in gold.
I made a gold jump ring and soldered it on to the pendant.
After much filing and sanding down and some TLC in the ultrasonic machine, I polished the G to reveal a shiny golden pendant.
I cut the right length of chain, soldered on the clasps, cleaned it up and threaded the pendant through and voila a lovely initial necklace.
SHINY AND NEW

HANDING IT OVER
Off to the laser engravers to get inscribed on the back – ‘You and I Always’
And then packaged off to a very delighted client, who has apparently not taken the necklace off to this day.
