THE PROCESS

DESIGN

The Brief – A gold ring to celebrate the birth of her daughter Jasmine

My clear inspiration was the plant jasmine, which by fortune I had growing in my garden at the time. I drew creativity from drawing the gorgeous flower and leaves, and out of this came the design of the garland ring, a twisted jasmine vine around a ring branch with little jasmine flowers blossoming around it.

The client loved the design and she chose pale green emeralds to symbolise the jasmine flowers as they beautifully complemented the gold vines and leaves.

THE MAKING PART

SUB TITLE

At the jewellery bench I started work on this pretty complex and detailed piece. I love working with solid gold, its soft and maleable to work with, and after pieceing, filing and soldering a ring began to take shape.

After the gemstones were set in their pronged nests, the ring was carefully polished and after a dip in the ultrasonic machine, it emerged a beautifully elegant and organic piece of jewellery.

THE FINISHED PIECE

HANDING IT OVER

The client really adored the ring, it represented the new life of her daughter and it was a joy to have made it for her.
